How To Add Images From Your Computer To A WordPress Blog Post
So you have written your post and now you want to know how to add images from your computer to your new WordPress plog post.
The good new is that is is easy and only you need to do to get prepared is locate one or more images on your computer that you want to add to your post. Actually if you know you have some somewhere you don’t have to do this now, as you can wait until later in the image upload process below.
Find The Post For The New Image
So to start off loigin to your Wordpres admin dashboard and click on POSTS and then Posts in the menu side bar on the left.
Then click on the Title of the post you want to add the image or images to. This will then cause the Posts EDITOR for the post you just selected to be displayed.
Controls For Uploading Images And Media
Take a look at the area in the top left of the post editor just below the Title area and you will see a lot of buttons and icons that if clicked will allow you to do many different things in the editor. One of these icons is for adding images!
Where is says Upload/Insert you will find 5 icons just to the right of it and these allow you to upload different media files for insertion into your post, and in order they are:
- ADD AN IMAGE
- ADD VIDEO
- ADD AUDIO
- ADD MEDIA
- ADD POLL
First of all move the cursor and position it to the point in your content where you want the image to be displayed.
Images can be centered on the page (with no content either side) or positioned right or left with content wrapped around the image.
So then to add images you need to click on the first one of the icons, which looks like this: ![]()
When you do this the “Add media files from your computer” screen will be displayed and it is from here where you will be able to upload an image from you computer.

NOTE: There are only certain typs of image format that you are aloowed to upload to WordPress, but all the most popular ones are included. Also note that there is a “Maximum upload file size” limit of 1GB, so make sure your image files is no bigger than thisbefore you upload it. WordPress.com also limit the total size of the space you can use for storing your images and it also tells you how much has alreay been used. This is another good reason to reduce the size of your images before you upload them. If you need more space you can pay for it by clicking on the Space Upgrade link.
Upload An Image From Your Computer
Simply click on the SELECT FILES button to start the image upload process. This will cause another window to open that willl allow you to browse the folders on your computer to find the image you want to add.
On Windows Vista it will look something like the window shown below, but for other operating systems or versions this may look a bit different, but the functionality will be the same.
When you have found the image you want just click on it to select it and then click on the OPEN button to tell WordPress that this is the image file you want to upload.
A timer bar will appear to show you the progress of the image upload and when it completes the window will change to add a display showing the details of the image just uploaded.
The Title for the image will be initially given the file name for the image , but you can change this to something more meaningful and it is also a good idea to copy this title into the Alternate Text as well.
You can align the image by clicking on None, Left, Right or Center. Leave it at None if you are not sure what you want as you can checkit and then change this setting later.
In addtion you can change the size of the image displayed in your post by clicking on Thumbnail, Medium, Large or Full Size. The diemnsion to really consider here is the width because if the image is too wide it wil not fit in the post are width and it will overlap the right sidebar of the bog and not look so good! Therefore alway try to keep the width of your images no greater than 575 pixels for a better looking blog post.
When you are happy with the image size and the alignment then just click on the INSERT INTO POST button to add the image to your blog post.
The window will then close and take you back to the Edit Post window where the post will now have the image you just uploaeded added to it:
Changing and Deleting Your Image After Adding It
If you want to change or delete the image after adding it then simply click on it and two small icons will appear in the top left corner of it.
Click on the red icon on th right to delete the image from your post and click on the other icon if you want to change your image settings, such as size or alignment etc.
If you click on the left icon another screen will open to allow you to change the image settings.
Altering The Image Size And Dimensions
You can now reduce the size of the image by clicking on the percentage scale to the left of the image. You can also change the alignent here too.
If you click on the ADVANCED SETTINGS TAB at the top of the screen you can make other alterations too.
By using this tab your are able to be more specific about changing the size of the image as you can actually enter the exact diemnsion that you want your image to have and you do this where it says SIZE and you should enter a new value for WIDTH and/or HEIGHT to change image sizes.
Click on the UPDATE button to complete your changes and return to the Edit Post page. Then click on the blue UPDATE Button on the right to add the changes to your post on your WordPress blog.
Viewing The New Image In Your Post
In order to see the image that you have just upload embedded in your post you should go to your blog in your interent browser and go to the post with the image in it. If this post is already displayed then refresh the page to see the latest changes.
Note: You can also see how the image will look in your post by clicking on the PREVIEW CHANGES button when you are in the POST EDITOR before or after you click on Update.
