How To Change The Background Of The WordPress Theme TwentyTen
Read this if you want to learn how to change the header image or the blog background when your WordPress site is using the defaut theme called TwentyTen.
The WordPress TwentyTen theme became the new default theme that is activated with any new free blog at WordPress.com with the release of WordPress 3.0 in 2010. This new default theme has been a long time coming and is also installed with any new installation of WordPress fo self-hosted sites too.
WordPress have made a real effort when desiging this new theme to ensure that users can easily change important visual components of the theme such as the Header Image and the Blog Background and this article will show you how to both these thingin the TwentyTen theme.
Initial Default Installation Version
This is the TwentyTen theme as it looks after an initial installation and before any changes are made to it.
Changing The Blog Background in TwentyTen
As always it will be assumed that you are already logged in to your admin dashboard and from there you want to click on the APPEARANCE Menu Option and then on the BACKGROUND sub-option to get the following page to display:
The easiest way to change the backgorund of your blog is to just select a diiferent color for it and you can do this by clicking on the SELECT A COLOR link in the bottom right of the page.

will then see a rianbow color ring display right below where you just clicked on the link.
You can use your mouse to drag the indicator around the outer ring to select a base color for you color change and then you can finish this off by cliking in the central sqaure to get the exact color match that you want. The color you are selecting will be displayed in the wide PREVIEW panel at the top of the page.
Then just click on the SAVE CHANGES button to apply your newly selected color to your blog’s background.
How To Use An Image For The Blog Background In TwentyTen
Before you can do this you will have to choose an image you want to use for your new blog background. Also it is worth trying to understand how this works and what type and size of image you need to get this done. Or you could just pick any image you like, upload it and play with the settings to see what effect they have…

Once you have a new background image selected for uploading you can start the upload process simply click on the BROWSE button next to where it says “Choose an image from your computer:”
This will then open a window allowing you to look for an image by searching folders on your computer.
The easiest place to put an image before uploading would be on your computer’s desktop as it will alwas be easy to find there.
When you have found what you want just click on upload and an illustration of what your background will look like will be displayed in the wide PREVIEW panel at the top of the page.
Use the display options to change the way the image you just uploaded is displayed as your blog’s background. You can change the POSITION (Left,Center or Right),the REPEAT pattern (None, Tile, Tile Horizontal or Tile Vertical) and Attachment (Scroll or Fixed).
You can then use the settings to change the appearance if you want to. Click on VISIT YOUR SITE to see what your site looks like after the background has been updated after clicking on the SAVE CHANGES button.
