How To Write Your First Post On Your Free WordPress Blog

When you are ready and want to know how to write your first post for your new free WordPress blog then to start off you have to first login in to your free blog’s administrator’s WordPress dashboard area.

If this is the first time that you have done this then you will need to remove the post that WordPress writes during the installation process.

Remove Hello World!

This post is titled “Hello World” and you can find this post by clicking on the POSTS option in the left-hand menu sidebar. When you click on these menu options other sub-options will be shown and they will be closed again when you click on the main menu option again.

Before you write your own post you need to delete the Hello World post and you can do this by moving the your mouse over the title of the post where it says “Hello World” and then you will see some extra text appear underneath the title and you need to click on the link that says TRASH. When you do this the post will be moved to the Trash can area of your free WordPress blog and will not show up in your blog any more.

Add A New Post

To now add a new post of  your own just clcik on the ADD NEW sub-option in the POSTS menu in the left sidebar of the admin area dasboard as you can see in the bove screen shot.

This will then bring up the “Add New Post” page in your WordPress dashboard. This is easy to use and is just like a word processor!

Note that by default you are provided with the VISUAL EDITOR and that the HTML EDITOR for viewing the actual code behind the posts you are creating is on a seperate tab.

You can switch between these tabs at any time if you want to add some code to your WORDPRESS post.

Add A Title And Your Content

First you need to a  Title for your new blog posts and it pays to make this concise but at the same time make it interesting so that it encourages readers to read your post. Catchy titles that encourage people to want to know more are best.

Also do not make your title too long as it will not look good on your blog if the title wraps on the page and also try to restrict the title length to 67 chracters as this is what will be display by Google and other search enigines when your blog post is listed in their search results.

After you have entered you title into the Title area at the top of the page you are now ready to add content and write your blog post.

To do this just simply insert your text in to the large editable area on the screen. You need to write about 400 words of original conten for the search engines to easily index your page and know what it is about. Also include a keyword phrase (1,2,3, or 4 words) that describes what your blog posts is about, both in the title and integrated 2 or 3 times into the text you write. If you are not interested in your post ranking in the search engines you can skip this advice.

As you are writing it is a good idea to frequently click on the SAVE DRAFT button in the top right to ensure you do not loose any of the work you are doing.

When you are done writing your blog post and you have added all the content you want then you are now ready to publish your new blog post.

Publish Your New Blog Post

You can do this by clicking on the big blue PUBLISH button on the right. And that is it your new post has been published to your blog and if you go to your blog you will now see that it is displayed on the front or home page of your blog. How easy was that?!

How To Make Your Content Stand Out More

You should always use paragraphs when writing your blog content. This is because no one really likes to read text that never seems to pause at all. In order to break up what you are writing  for easier reading in paragraphs, you should just enter double spaces or return between the lines where you want your paragraph breaks to oocur.

Also always use heading lines in your posts just to break up the boring flow of text that will be ther otherwise.

Different sizes of text can be selecte as H1 (largest) down to H4 (the smallest) from the small drop down menu at the top of the editor box and you should use whatever you feel is appropriate.

H2 is most often used in posts for big sections and H3 for sub-headings under the H2 headings.

The final check you should make is to speel check all your text to make sure it looks professional and makes good sense.

Add Images And Video For Reader Interest

Another way to make your content more intersting  is to add images and videos to your blog posts and these media elements will make your posts much more attractive to readers. Both of these are quite simple to add and integrate right into the text of your blog posts and you will find that they aer fun to do!

These elements and how to include them will be covered in later articles.

Update Your Post To Add More Content

If you need to change your posts in the future after looging back in again you will need to go to POSTS in the left menu sidebar and then click on it. You will then see all your current posts displayed and you can simply click on the one you want to edit to to the WordPress post editor for that post just as you did when you wrote the first blog post above.

When you have done entering additional content or media elements you simply click on the UPDATE button (previosuly the Publish button) to publish the new changes to your blog.
